My martial arts journey began at 11years old; finding Kiaido Ryu Martial Arts at age 17. First training was in Papakura, and then Takanini, I eventually gained my Black Belt. I was then fortunate to train and attain my 2nd Degree Black Belt in 1992 at Thames Dojo.
In 1996 I went for my OE around Europe and was able to dabble in other arts as I travelled. On returning to NZ in 2001 my training restarted in Remuera. I then moved to Kerikeri in 2004 where I began preparations for my 3rd Degree Black Belt. This gave me the opportunity to achieve one of my biggest goals; opening my own Dojo in Kerikeri. At the same time I was running my own building business.
As the years past I decided to shift my business to Thames with my partner Andrea. This allowed me to start training on my 4th Degree Black Belt with Hanshi Lance. I achieved this goal and the rank of Renshi in 2021. I’m privileged to now take over the Thames Dojo from Hanshi Lance and Kyoshi Ava to be head Instructor in 2024.
My goal for our Dojo is continue to grow and develop the current students and attract new students to join me on this rewarding martial journey. I’ve found to never be discouraged with whatever stage you’re at, because each step is as important as the next. “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”
