Qigong Level One
What is Qigong? It’s a key element of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that’s been practiced in various forms in China for thousands of years. It is an ancient art of health care, and energy management.
Qi is “life force,” Gong is “work” i.e. Qigong essentially means energy-work. It’s about working to increase the strength, quality, and health of your life force energy, for the optimum function of all body systems.
Qigong was once reserved for members of the imperial family and aristocracy, where it was a secret practice for preserving health and prolonging the length and quality of life.
Qigong is a holistic system of self-healing that includes low impact internal exercises, breathing techniques and meditations, to harmonize, strengthen, develop, and improve the quality and flow of your Qi.
From a western medicine perspective Qi can be thought of as ‘Bioelectricity’. In TCM it’s about balancing two primary elements Fire and Water energy in the body to assure a healthy, high quality, strong, and balanced energy flow’.
In western medicine the Fire and Water elements of TM can directly relate to the acid/alkaline balance in the body. If the body is too acidic it’s far more vulnerable to a lowered immune system, lack of energy, and more ailments and ill-health.
Two primary governing factors that determine this Fire (Acid) and Water (Alkaline) balance are the types of food we eat, how we eat, the quality of the air we breathe, and how we breathe. Another factor is the exercise we do and the types of exercise we do. If we only ever do hard external exercise and don’t balance this with softer Internal exercises we will also cause our body’s systems to be too acidic. All these factors directly determine the state, health, and strength of our Qi, or Bioelectricity, which determines how much energy we have to live our lives more dynamically and fully.
