NZ Self Defence Systems...

"There is not a more complete and effective self defence course available today."
- Leo Fong 10th Degree Grandmaster, Los Angeles USA

Self Defence Systems was established by Paul Hinton who is an internationally certified 6th Degree Black Belt in Kiaido Ryu Martial Arts. Paul is a vastly experienced martial arts and self defence instructor. Previously employed as a frontline officer in the New Zealand Police Paul spent the majority of his time working in Auckland city. During this period he saw a genuine need for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn real ‘street effective' self defence; and established Self Defence Systems. The material taught in the courses is based on Paul's martial arts knowledge and his experience in the Police.

Course Objectives

  • To improve your awareness of your environment, giving you the ability to avoid confrontation by identifying a potential situation and establishing a method of resolution.
  • When a situation cannot be resolved through non-violent means then you will have simple and effective techniques which you can use to defend yourself.
  • To remove the negative thinking that many of us possess about our ability to deal with confrontations and defend ourselves, because of physical or emotional makeup.
  • To enhance your confidence and self esteem which will in turn make you less likely to be a target and more able to deal with any situation that arises, whether it be physical or not.

Why do we need to learn self defence?

For a person who has been a victim of an assault in the past the answer is simple. For someone who has never been in a confrontation or attacked it is also a very relevant question.

In today's society we are seeing a steady rise in the incidence of violence. The media is constantly bombarding us with stories of violent attacks on people. We hear stories about children who are abducted on their way home from school, women attacked late at night, or couples attacked in their homes.

There is a certain element in our communities who have lost simple respect for human dignity. These people choose to infringe upon the average persons right to go freely about their daily business without the fear of being the target of verbal, physical and mental abuse.

You may try to convince yourself that it will never happen to you. However there is a large portion of our community who thought the same way but still fell victim to an attack. The irony of it all is that most people decide to learn self defence after they have been attacked.

Self Defence Systems offers real solutions for real situations. We offer courses that teach simple strategies, tactics, and techniques to help improve your chances of survival if attacked. Not only do we address the physical side of self defence but also the psychological aspect that is all too often ignored or underestimated. Do not be complacent about your personal safety, take a positive step now and learn how to protect yourself, because violence does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, gender, or financial status. Remember that you are the only person responsible for your personal safety.

The suit is worn by the instructors during supervised ‘simulation drills' that develops participants to remain calm, and be able to best respond, in threatening situations. This gives the participant a chance to really apply the techniques they have learnt.
